Federal Voting Systems Bill

This bill would impose certain requirements on voting systems vendors (similar to those imposed by California law), prohibit conflicts of interest by voting systems testing authorities, and require the posting of a notice advising voters of their right to file a complaint if they believe that a voting machine is not working properly. The text of H.R. 470 can be found here.

Sweeping Amendments to HAVA Proposed

Senator Dodd has introduced a bill (S 17) that would make a number of sweeping changes to HAVA and significantly accelerate what some local election officials view as the "federalization" of election administration. Among other changes, Senator Dodd's legislation would establish national write-in ballots for federal elections, require voter verified ballots, provide for election day registration, regulate the removal of voters' names from voter registration lists, and impose requirements for counting provisional ballots. A pdf version of the bill to enact the "Voting Opportunity and Technology Enhancement Rights Act of 2005" can be found here.
